When I think of the year ending and the new year beginning, I think about people. I see them riding on the subway; I see tears too cold to fall out of eyes; I see mothers holding their children’s hands; I see a man running late for his bus; I see hunger; I see families huddling together, keeping each other warm. I see life. I hear babies cackle and cry. Lovers hold hands. Others couldn’t be more oblivious. You want to know what I wish for the New Year? It’s simple. I want everyone to find that place inside of inside of them that belongs to no other. I want them to connect or reconnect with the power inside of them. I want them to find peace within.
Happy New “Zing!” Year. We look forward to seeing you often.

Happy New Year, Paul! Looking forward to more jam sessions in 2014
A new year has begun full of hope and wishes.
My wish for all of us Haitians is to stop wishing and make things happen.
Together, we can bring relief to the less fortunate by giving, no matter how little we have. As it is written on our banner: “l’Union fait la Force”. Let us bring hope, food, clothing, education, security, access to healthcare and love to our people in Haiti.
May this year be the year of unity and peace!

I was born in Port-Au-Prince. Both of my parents came from Leogane. Although I left a long time ago, Haiti will always be home. My roots are there. It is there that I took my first step. It is where I first said “I love you,” and understood what that meant. Haiti gave and continues to give me courage. It taught me to respect and treat everyone that comes into my life with dignity. I think about Haiti every day. I have nostalgie for the people, the music, the sun, the colors, Rond Point, Champs de Mars, Bicentenaire: those places may have changed significantly; some may no longer exist. In my own heart, however, they will always be there. No matter where I go in the world, Haiti will always be home.
Happy New Year, Elle! Thank you for sharing your voice on VoicesfromHaiti!
